Nowadays, people who cannot or choose not to eat the typical American diet aren’t quite the oddity they used to be.
Still, though, vegans can feel a bit out of place at times, especially during the holidays, when buttery baked goods and heaping piles of meat make frequent appearances at parties.
Writer Bill Muir — who also goes by Sergeant Vegan — is here to guide us all through this delicate time.
Muir went vegan in the early 1990s, when he was serving in the military. Hence the nickname.
And that was no piece of (egg- and dairy-free) cake.
Clearly he survived, and he wants to ensure all the rest of us can enjoy our holiday meals as much as possible, no matter our dietary preferences.
Muir shares his hard-earned wisdom, in addition to discussing his new book, Vegan Strong, with All Things Considered’s Michel Martin.
