A painting by an artist who illustrated books by Voltaire, Victor Hugo, and Honoré de Balzac was bought immediately upon its display at a Manhattan gallery.
Forbes reports that nineteenth-century French artist Adrien Moreau’s La Réception au Château went to an unnamed buyer at an undisclosed price.
To the knowledge of the dealer who just sold it, the work has never been on public display.
