Joshua Harris was a bestselling author at age twenty-one.

Today, though, he’s somewhat regretful rather than proud of that accomplishment.

Harris’s book I Kissed Dating Goodbye, which came out in 1997, promoted not just abstinence but also serious courtships only — no casual dating.

The evangelical purity movement, of course, embraced the book, but as time passed, Harris found himself questioning his own work.

Publicly, even.

Harris, a few followers, and some critics all spoke with Morning Edition about the new documentary about the bestseller, called I Survived I Kissed Dating Goodbye.
