David Blight’s new biography of Frederick Douglas is among the New York Times’s ten best books of the year.

At nearly nine hundred pages, though, Frederick Douglass: Prophet of Freedom might not make it past the to-be-read pile of anyone strapped for time.

Enter Fresh Air’s Dave Davies, whose interview with Blight includes a fair amount of "deeper cut" information about the former slave-turned-abolitionist-and-orator.
