As fans gear up to celebrate twenty years since her breakout novel, Tracy Chevalier has announced the title of her next book.
The Girl With A Pearl Earring, whose success in 1999 made her a household name, was her second book; A Single Thread, set to be published in September 2019, will be her tenth.
According to The Bookseller, it will tell the story of Violet Speedwell, who lost her brother and fiancé in World War I.
Many years after the war, still single and considered a “surplus woman,” she continues to grieve but decides not to go quietly into spinsterhood.
Instead, she moves away from her overbearing mother and into the arms of a community of women who embroider.
