Malala Yousafzai knows everyone is familiar with her story: surviving a murder attempt by the Taliban and going on to become the youngest ever Nobel laureate.

So with her upcoming book, she wanted to give voice to other women and girls from all over the world who have survived unimaginable ordeals.

Yousafzai hopes that We Are Displaced, which comes out February 12, humanizes the suffering of these people uprooted from their homes and that it reminds readers that developing countries are, in fact, hosting most of them.

Read her interview with the Guardian to learn more about the book and her journey to writing it.
