Hollywood celebrities have helped save a Los Angeles horror bookstore.
Last weekend, the owners of Dark Delicacies launched a GoFundMe to raise money for a new location, with rent at the current one no longer affordable for them.
They told the Los Angeles Times that they considered the effort a shot in the dark, so a retweet from filmmaker Guillermo del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth, Blade II, and The Shape of Water) caught them by surprise.
It also worked.
By Tuesday evening, the GoFundMe had well surpassed its initial $20,000 goal — and of that, $3,000 came from another famous filmmaker: James Wan, director of Saw, Insidious, and Aquaman.
(The goal is now at $30,000, with over $27,000 of that secured.)
