"Inheritance" describes the shock of what DNA tests can reveal

DNA test kits warn users that they may see unexpected and shocking results.

That certainly proved true for writer Dani Shapiro.

She saw the test as harmless fun; what it revealed, though, was that her biological father was not the man who had raised her.

Shapiro has written a memoir about the shock of the discovery and what she later learned about infertility during the era in which she was born.
