We tweeted this out on Friday, but now it’s time for a more comprehensive share: Netflix will finance the film version of J.D. Vance’s bestselling memoir Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis.

Deadline was first to report the news about the adaptation, which Ron Howard is directing and The Shape Of Water co-writer Vanessa Taylor is adapting.

Hillbilly Elegy, to quote its blurb, is “a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis — that of white working-class Americans.”
