Indie author Nick Milligan knew it wouldn’t be easy, but he still dreamed of seeing his speculative-fiction novel, Enormity, on the big screen some day.

So seeing a similar plot appear in a movie trailer — but not one he’d worked on — was, to put it lightly, a bit of a disappointment.

Milligan told the Guardian that he believes the similarities between his book and the upcoming movie Yesterday are coincidental, and he recognizes some key differences as well.

Although he’s seen a slight increase in sales, he described himself as feeling “quite awkward about the whole situation” to the Guardian.

Milligan is seeking legal advice on it; the Guardian is seeking comment from the producer of Yesterday, which stars Himesh Patel, Lily James, Kate McKinnon, and Ed Sheeran.

(And PS: Milligan has listed his short-story collection, Tomcat Feelings, with us — so if you don't grab it now, keep an eye out in our newsletters for potential future sales.)
