There’s so much we can buy over the counter in hopes of keeping ourselves healthier, but the million-dollar question always is: Does it work?

Science writer Christie Aschwanden asked that question, in particular, of the increasingly common and popular exercise-recovery aids.

When Aschwanden was a high school and college athlete, few people put much thought into the science of recovery.

That, obviously, has changed. So she dug into many of the methods and wrote a book on what she found.
