The thought of an enormous catastrophe has fascinated — and continues to fascinate — humanity.

And our fascination with these disasters has inspired Bob Berman, an author and astronomer, to write a book about all the ways things could go terribly wrong.

But the good news is, Berman’s interview with Lulu Garcia-Navarro about that book — Earth-Shattering: Violent Supernovas, Galactic Explosions, Biological Mayhem, Nuclear Meltdowns, And Other Hazards To Life In Our Universe — has several surprisingly uplifting moments.
