HBO will air a new retelling of Richard Wright's novel Native Son tonight.

Fans of the book should reserve judgment until after watching the movie — retitled Still Kind Of The Same America —  since Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Suzan-Lori Parks wrote the screenplay.

HBO’s version keeps protagonist Bigger Thomas’s lofty dreams of escape but moves them into more modern times.

You can learn more about both versions in NPR's segment on Still Kind Of The Same America.
