Tolkien biopic team: We stand by our film

Yesterday, the family and estate of JRR Tolkien issued a statement criticizing the upcoming biopic Tolkien; today, the film-makers are defending themselves.

Fox Searchlight said in a statement that it is “proud of Dome Karukoski’s film, which focuses on the early years of Tolkien’s extraordinary life and does not depict subject matter from his novels.”

The studio acknowledged that it didn’t work with the Tolkien estate but reiterated its respect for the author’s works.
