Here’s a novel approach to a book (sorry, weekend has us feeling punny): Set it up as a catalogue accompanying a posthumous show of the main character’s artwork.

That’s the premise of Feast Your Eyes by Myla Goldberg: Her protagonist, Lillian Preston, is an aspiring photographer. Readers don’t see any of the 118 photos described, but Goldberg did rely on actual pictures to build the story.

Listen to Goldberg talk about her work with Ari Shapiro on All Things Considered, or read a transcript of their conversation on NPR’s website.
