Uncovering the daily lives of the average person in the long-ago past has always been more difficult than, say, figuring out what the ruling classes were up to.

In the past few decades, though, experts have stepped up to the challenge of figuring out our historical reading habits.

The Chronicle of Higher Education introduces us to many of those experts and their strategies of solving these mysteries, in a piece from a few years back.
