No matter how tech-savvy you are or aren’t, you know that digital communication holds its own set of rules and a great potential for misunderstandings.
First of all, there's the lack of inflection and body language; add in your typical generational differences and the bonus complication of how long you've been communicating digitally and thus picking up on the unspoken rules.
No wonder Gretchen McCulloch felt the need to write the book Because Internet: Understanding The New Rules Of Language.
McCulloch discussed a few of those rules — whether to end a message with a period and how you can use LOL — in an interview with Audie Cornish.
