The Academy of American Poets handed out a number of awards yesterday, including one with a $100,000 prize.

Rita Dove, a former U.S. poet laureate, received that purse to accompany the Wallace Stevens Award for “proven mastery” in poetry, the Associated Press reported.

Dove’s career achievements include, but are not limited to, the Pulitzer Prize for her verse-novel Thomas and Beulah and finalist honors for the National Book Critics Circle award for On the Bus with Rosa Parks, according to the Poetry Foundation.

Other poets receiving recognition yesterday included Kyle Dargan (outstanding poetry book), Aditi Machado (outstanding second book of poetry), and Seth Frank (most promising young poet).
