Are you ready for some football?
Okay, we’re actually posting about soccer — known as football outside of the U.S. — and about a soccer player’s memoir.
The memoir in question won’t be available at a bookstore in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, after excerpts from it revealed the author’s reluctance to join that city's team.
“From a career perspective, there was no doubt in my mind that a move to the North East was a downward step,” writes Michael Owen in Reboot.
“As unpalatable as that opinion might be to Newcastle fans, that’s more or less what I felt.”
In response, The Back Page bookstore said it wouldn’t carry Reboot, which now has the dubious honor of the first book it has ever “totally refused to stock.”
