Harriet Tubman has rightfully earned fame for helping slaves escape to freedom.

A novel published earlier this year, however, calls attention to her military service during the Civil War.

Author Elizabeth Cobbs went on All Things Considered to reintroduce readers to The Tubman Command’s depiction of Tubman as a military scout and strategist.
