Elena Ferrante’s next novel, The Lying Life of Adults, has been out in Italy for a few months now.

It won’t, however, reach the United States until June 9, so the Washington Post turned to Mary Gray — a freelance journalist, university lecturer, and contributing magazine editor living in Italy — to share her reaction as well as Italians’.

She shares what she promises are spoiler-free reactions to The Lying Life of Adults, as well as a peek into how Italians see its world-famous author, in the Post.
