The routes that authors take to publication vary widely.
One we hadn’t seen until recently — though it’s neither worked nor advisable — is to hold a published writer’s website hostage.
An aspiring author has been “squatting” on Patrick DeWitt’s website since at least September 2018, with the idea that DeWitt will pass his/her manuscript along to his publisher or agent for consideration, as demanded.
Literary Hub reported on this odd case on Thursday, and the website squatter/aspiring author actually responded to the coverage — check out the original story and the response here.
DeWitt is the author of The Sisters Brothers, which was adapted into a film starring John C. Reilly, Joaquin Phoenix, and Jake Gyllenhaal back in 2018.
