Happy 208th birthday, Charles Dickens!

It feels like we’ve been saving some non-time-sensitive stories about the author of A Christmas Carol, Oliver Twist, Great Expectations, and many more English classics for nearly that long.

Over the summer, we had:

The Guardian reporting on the “fan fiction” — or plagiarism — of Dickens’s works by press baron Edward Lloyd.

Dickens, as anyone can understand, was outraged by how Lloyd capitalized on his work, but was unable to persuade a judge to put a stop to the penny-dreadful copies.

And Crime Reads shared how Dickens was fascinated by detectives, which were a new development in the world of crime during Dickens’s prime writing years.
