Based on our pre-Halloween reader poll on Facebook, we know many of you have started (though perhaps not finished) Erik Larson’s books.

His bestseller The Devil in the White City, about a series of murders committed during the 1893 Chicago World's Fair, seems to have scared many a reader into abandoning it for their own sanity.

So if you’re unsure about whether you’re brave enough to tackle his upcoming release — The Splendid and the Vile — NPR is ready to help.

It has an exclusive preview of the book, which details Winston Churchill’s leadership in the face of Adolf Hitler’s increasing aggression.

The Splendid and the Vile comes out in full on February 25.
