The former mayor of Baltimore was sentenced to three years in jail yesterday for a fraud scheme involving her children’s-book series.
Catherine Pugh came under fire last year when the Baltimore Sun found she’d struck a no-bid deal with the University of Maryland Medical System — upon whose board she sat — to purchase her Healthy Holly books.
Further investigation revealed a number of financial crimes, in addition to double-selling or failing to print thousands of the Healthy Holly books.
Pugh will be required to pay restitution to organizations that bought the books — and destroy her copies of them.
She resigned in May, a few months after the Sun's investigation began.
