Oscar-winning filmmaker Taika Waititi’s next project will be a Netflix adaptation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
Vanity Fair reports that the adaptation will contain two parts: one that follows the Roald Dahl book and another that provides an original take on the Oompa-Loompas.
Waititi became the first indigenous person to win a screenwriting Oscar this past February, when Jojo Rabbit received the adapted screenplay award.
There’s no release date for either series yet.
In other movie adaptation news, Peter Rabbit 2 has become the second movie publicly announced to be delayed because of the new coronavirus outbreak.
The live-action/CGI sequel to the adaptation of Beatrix Potter’s beloved children’s book won’t come out this spring but rather August 7 worldwide.
The Hollywood Reporter, in sharing the news, noted that a significant chunk of the first Peter Rabbit movie’s money was made in overseas markets, several of which have seen widespread theater closures because of COVID-19.
Also delayed over coronavirus concerns: the latest James Bond movie, which, of course, has literary roots as well.
