The Great Gatsby’s copyright expires January 1, 2021 – and other authors aren’t hesitating to make use of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic novel.
Michael Farris Smith, author of Blackwood, The Fighter, and Desperation Road, will release a prequel called Nick on January 5 in the United States and February 25 in the United Kingdom.
Smith’s book stars, as you might guess, Nick Carraway, the narrator of The Great Gatsby.
His UK publisher promises that this younger Nick will be “charged with enough alcohol, heartbreak and profound yearning to transfix even the heartiest of golden-age scribes,” according to the Guardian, which has more details about the prequel.
