Conditional Citizens, the new nonfiction work by Laila Lalami, hits shelves today.

Like much of her previous fiction work, this book weaves in themes of immigration and other-ness, but this time, the author is front and center, with her own journey from Moroccan immigrant to US citizen serving as a launchpad for a broader exploration of race and privilege.

You can read an excerpt of Conditional Citizens in the New York Times.
