You might not be able to check out the National Portrait Gallery’s latest exhibition, but an article in Smithsonian magazine will help take you there from a distance.
“Her Story: A Century of Women Writers” features twenty-four authors who helped shape twentieth-century literature, and together, the group has won every major writing prize during that period.
Their work ranges from children’s lit to plays to novels to autobiographies and covers a diverse set of experiences and backgrounds.
Gwendolyn DuBois Shaw, the National Portrait Gallery’s senior historian, summed it up this way in the Smithsonian’s article about the display: “There is sure to be an author here (who) is on everyone’s list of favorites.”
