The MacArthur Foundation revealed its 2020 fellowship recipients today, and several wordsmiths were among them.
Recipients of the twenty-one “genius grants” (worth $625,000) included:
Tressie McMillan Cottom, a sociologist, writer, and public scholar.
Larissa FastHorse, a playwright.
N.K. Jemisin, a speculative fiction writer.
Fred Moten, a cultural theorist and poet.
Cristina Rivera Garza, a fiction writer.
Jacqueline Woodson, a children’s and young-adult writer.
In the foundation’s words, the prize money is a “no-strings-attached award to extraordinarily talented and creative individuals as an investment in their potential.”
