We recently shared NPR’s interview with The Cold Millions author Jess Walter, and now we have a sample from his latest work, too.

The novel, set in the early 20th century, follows two brothers fighting the same battle against poverty but taking sharply different paths.

You can read an excerpt from The Cold Millions in the New York Times.

Other books to preview are White Ivy by Susie Yang and To Be a Man by Nicole Krauss.

The former follows Ivy from a child taught to steal by her grandmother to a poised young woman whose past threatens to upend the perfect life she seems to have finally built.

The latter is a short-story collection that explores relationships of all sorts — parental, romantic, platonic, and more.

You can read an excerpt of White Ivy and an excerpt of To Be a Man in the New York Times.
