Celebrity book clubs have released their picks for December 2020.

Reese Witherspoon selected The Chicken Sisters, by KJ Dell’Antonia.

The novel describes the mess that ensues when competing fried-chicken stores — and the estranged sisters who each work at a separate one — land on a reality TV show, putting not just the restaurants’ feud but also family secrets in the spotlight.

The Chicken Sisters is "a charming, hilarious, feel-good story about the kind of bonds and rivalries only sisters can share," Witherspoon wrote in announcing her Hello Sunshine book club selection.

Jenna Bush Hager picked The Bluest Eye, by Toni Morrison.

The novel follows an eleven-year-old Black girl who prays nightly that her eyes will turn blue, like those of the white children who enjoy advantages because of their race.

Hager said, in announcing her Read With Jenna pick, that The Bluest Eye — which she originally read in high school — was "the first book that really opened my eyes to how literature can create understanding and take you into worlds you don’t know."

Good Morning America chose This Time Next Year, by Sophie Cousens.

This romantic comedy stars two people who were the first and second babies born on New Year’s Day in London one year and how their vastly different paths lead them together — in more ways than one — on their thirtieth birthday.

You can read an excerpt of This Time Next Year in GMA's announcement of its choice.
