If you listen to contemporary audiobooks, odds are extremely good you’ve encountered narrator Cassandra Campbell at this point.

She has, after all, recorded nine hundred books now, including Where the Crawdads Sing, by Delia Owens (and the Birdbox novels by Josh Malerman, which were our introduction to her).

The novel hasn’t just made a splash on the page; it’s also in its 27th month on the bestseller list for audio fiction.

Perhaps that’s because Campbell has a special connection to the setting of Where the Crawdads Sing, as she explains in an interview with the New York Times.
