Now that the media has had more than a full day to process the death of novelist John le Carré, there's plenty of tribute and memorial material for readers to dive into.

To go straight to the source, you can watch le Carré's 1965 interview with the BBC, listen to NPR's Fresh Air interview with le Carré from 1989, and read le Carré's 2016 essay on how British spies felt about him.

Fellow writers shared their memories of him with NPR and the Guardian, and the New York Times’s critic chimed in, too.

And for those with just a passing familiarity with him, the NYT recommends these essential le Carré works as well as nine adaptations that you can stream.
