A new production company will adapt two acclaimed books by Black authors — with the writers themselves serving as co-executive producers.

Literary Hub reports that Tessa Thompson’s Viva Maude will adapt Who Fears Death by Nnedi Okorafor and The Secret Lives of Church Ladies by Deesha Philyaw (a National Book Award finalist) for HBO/HBO Max.

George R.R. Martin will also serve as an executive producer for Who Fears Death.

And speaking of Okorafor, her latest work — Remote Control, about a young girl who acquires the power to exude fatal radiation — is out today.

You can read reviews of it on Bookmarks and at The AV Club.
