We just found out we have a new favorite kind of spider: the Uroballus Carlei.
This jumping spider, recently discovered in Hong Kong and confirmed as a new species, owes its name to beloved children’s author Eric Carle.
The Literary Hub article that shared the news with us doesn’t include a photo of said spider, but it does explain that it resembles a caterpillar — hence why it’s named after the author of The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
You can read a bit more about Uroballus Carlei in Lit Hub, which in turn links to more coverage and photos, if you’re interested in seeing it. (We personally are not, despite its charming name.)
