March 15 was, in fact, an ominous day for some folks (despite being long after Julius Caesar’s time).

That was when production of Apple TV+’s adaptation of The Essex Serpent, adapted from Sarah Perry’s historical-fiction novel of the same name, began.

Perry’s bestseller follows the newly widowed Cora (Claire Danes) who moves to the small English town of Essex, where a mythical serpent is said to have returned.

The TV version will also star Tom Hiddleston as Will Ransome.

Deadline has exclusive pictures from The Essex Serpent's first day on set, if you’re interested.
