Eight writers just received the call of a lifetime.
The 2021 Windham Campbell Prize, which awards an unrestricted grant of $165,000 to each of its winners, was announced yesterday.
And unlike other literary prizes, the recipients have no idea they’re under consideration until they’re told that they’ve won; one, in fact, told the Guardian that when she saw an email from prize organizers, she thought she was being invited to present a prize.
Congratulations to the following writers!
-
Nonfiction: Kate Briggs and Vivian Gornick
-
Drama: Nathan Alan Davis and Michael R. Jackson
-
Fiction: Dionne Brand and Renee Gladman
-
Poetry: Canisia Lubrin and Natalie Scenters-Zapico
