An open letter published in The Bookseller criticizes the British book industry for accepting transphobia and calls on it to do better.

The website reports that “The Paradox of Tolerance” is signed by several anonymous publishers, writers, illustrators, and booksellers whose identities it hasn’t been able to confirm.

It compares the negative treatment of the transgender community to historical bias and mistreatment of other minority groups, such as women, people of color, Muslims, and Jews.

The CEO of the Publishers Association told The Bookseller, in response, that the industry recognizes it can and should do more to be inclusive.
