It’s release day for Stacey Abrams, who is now the published author of a political thriller — While Justice Sleeps – in addition to several romance novels.

And while the Supreme Court has been the source of considerable political drama in the past few years, Abrams told NPR that her novel predates the recent bickering.

She’s been working on it for about a decade, and the idea came not from any conspiracy theories or fears but rather a simple observation that her mentor made about the Constitution at a lunch one day.

Abrams reflects more on her writing in general and this book in particular with Lulu Garcia-Navarro; you can read excerpts of the conversation or a complete transcript of it on NPR’s website or listen to it below.
