Happy release day to Brandon Taylor, whose short-story collection, Filthy Animals, hits shelves today.

Taylor’s debut novel, Real Life, was shortlisted for the Booker Prize, so anticipation and expectation are likely both high for this follow-up.

The author spoke with NPR’s Scott Simon about the book in the weekend leading up to its release.

Taylor and Simon discuss the elements that come from the author’s life and the experience of changing settings, among other topics, in the interview, which you can read or listen to on NPR’s website.

And if the short passage Taylor reads on air isn't enough, the New York Times has an excerpt from Filthy Animals.
