We hope you’re sitting down for this surprising news: Hilary Mantel has won a historical-fiction prize.
Specifically, she has received this year’s Walter Scott Prize for Historical Fiction for The Mirror & The Light, the final installment of her Thomas Cromwell trilogy.
The first novel in that series, Wolf Hall, actually received the first-ever Walter Scott Prize, in a fun twist.
The award nets its recipient £25,000 ($39,400).
