Celebrity book club picks for August 2021

Celebrity book clubs have released their picks for August 2021. 

Reese Witherspoon selected We Were Never Here, by Andrea Bartz.

The book follows a pair of women whose backpacking trips, for two years in a row, coincide with fellow travelers’ murders — prompting one woman to begin questioning her friend’s innocence.

Jenna Bush Hager picked The Turnout, by Megan Abbott.

The novel stars a pair of sisters who inherit their parents’ ballet studio and run it without noticeable issue until one of them becomes fixated on a contractor with lofty — and expensive — visions for the studio.

“I love how Megan Abbott looks at the darker sides of things that we all remember, such as ballet classes as children,” Hager said in announcing her Read With Jenna book club pick. 

Good Morning America chose The Husbands, by Chandler Baker.

The book is described as a gender swap of The Stepford Wives — it follows a powerful attorney who, in the process of moving to a new neighborhood, befriends equally successful women whose husbands are more supportive than hers.

But of course, there's a darker side to this seeming paradise ...
