There’s no shortage of heartbreaking stories coming out of the Gulf Coast, which has been slammed by Hurricane Ida.

Shelf Awareness took a look at how independent bookstores in southeast Louisiana have fared and what can be done to help.

Some shops were able to confirm that all staffers (even the four-legged ones) were safe; others reported that they have no idea what their stores and inventory look like right now.
