On the day after Mary Shelley’s birthday, we hesitate to say it’s a shame that we can’t reanimate authors.

So instead, we’ll say that having acclaimed writers bring back an author’s beloved character is cause for celebration on its own.

The Guardian reports that twelve authors — including Val McDermid, Lucy Foley, Leigh Bardugo, and Ruth Ware — will each write a new story featuring Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple.

Their work is part of a collection authorized by the Christie estate; it will come out in September 2022.
