Your reaction to last night’s Met Gala likely ranges from “the what now?” to, as we saw on Twitter, “feels like we’re watching the Capitol in The Hunger Games.”

There is, however, a (remote) literary reason we’re bringing it up at all.

As far as Literary Hub’s Emily Temple can tell, the 2021 event was the first in which a poet served as co-chair.

Yes, you guessed it: Amanda Gorman joined several other celebrities in the honorary position.

Gorman reflected on how this and her other star-studded appearances since the inauguration have affected her and her creative process in an interview this summer with Porter magazine.
