The September 18, 1915, issue of The Saturday Evening Post introduced the world to P.G. Wodehouse’s Bertie Wooster and Jeeves.

In honor of the occasion, you can enjoy the story in which they appeared — “Extricating Young Gussie” — though as Literary Hub notes, the butler’s personality hasn’t quite emerged in this early writing.

In total, Wodehouse wrote more than ninety books, many of them starring Jeeves.
