The National Book Foundation announced its 5 Under 35 honorees this morning.
Each author is, of course, younger than 35, and the novels selected are their debuts.
The judges, all of whom either received a National Book Award nod (nomination or prize) or were chosen as a 5 Under 35 recipient, chose the following titles for this year’s class:
-
Open Water, by Caleb Azumah Nelson
-
The Sweetness of Water, by Nathan Harris
-
Stone Fruit, by Lee Lai
-
Agatha of Little Neon, by Claire Luchette
-
Milk Blood Heat, by Dantiel W. Moniz
Literary Hub has links to coverage of note for each author in its post, from interviews to excerpts to names of famous fans (and their nominators).
And also of note: 2021 is the first time in which a graphic novel (Stone Fruit) was honored.
