LeVar Burton may not have been offered the Jeopardy! hosting gig, but his guest appearance certainly wasn’t wasted effort.

The beloved Reading Rainbow host told Trevor Noah on The Daily Show last week that he received exactly what he wanted — a chance to compete for the job — and now realizes he wants to pursue something else instead.

Burton said a number of opportunities have been offered to him, and when Noah suggested he launch a bookish game show, he had this to say, according to Salon:

"We are working on creating exactly what that is. I never thought about hosting any other game show outside of 'Jeopardy!.' But now, they went in a different direction with their show, which is their right, and now I'm thinking, well, it does kind of make sense, let me see what I can do.”
