Israel’s book world is pushing back at author Sally Rooney.
Last month, Rooney said she had turned down an Israeli-based publisher’s offer to translate her latest work, Beautiful World, Where Are You, into Hebrew, in support of the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions movement.
And in turn, her two previous novels have now been pulled from two large Israeli bookstore chains, reports the Guardian.
Rooney’s books are gone from the websites of Steimatzky and Tzomet Sefarim and will soon be removed from the stores’ two-hundred-plus physical locations.
A Steimatzky representative confirmed in a statement to the Guardian that the move came in response to Rooney’s announcement; the paper was still waiting for official comment from Tzomet Sefarim.
